Grace's Room

Grace's Room is named for the last of the Adams women born in the house (in 1925). Family lore says that this bedroom was used by John & Dorothea Adams, the parents. It's the largest bedroom, so we put in two double beds to accommodate families. Here are some of the interesting features about Grace's Room:

Mud & straw insulation - this portion of the house was insulated by placing boards in channels between the studs and packing a mud & straw mixture between them, plastering the outside, then putting the siding on the outside and lath and plaster on the inside. A window in the wall preserves a view of this insulation.
The between-bed table is an early 19th century chest.

1901 Singer sewing machine that still runs like a top belonged to Sandra's great-great aunt.

The chifferobe, containing bathrobes to wear downstairs, came from a local home.

The 'in-room movie' Viewmaster has lots of reels for young and old.
Reading material specializes in 1930s thru 1950s farm and 'how-to' magazines.
Just outside the room, Sandra's collection of antique family quilts is on display.
